$3 Thursday – Spring card set

I’ve been sick for the past week and the only crafts I’ve completed have been cards.  I guess somehow they can be quick and easy to finish.  Well quick and easy if you are copying a design you’ve seen.

This set of cards was inspired by this card I saw on a blog Cards by Kelly Jo.

I happened upon Kelly Jo’s blog and loved a lot of her cards.  I might just end up copying a couple other ones.

I pulled out two 12 x 12 sheets of paper that I’ve had for years.  Really, I think I got them in a kit from HSN or QVC, like 7 or 8 years ago.  I pulled out three different colors of cardstock for the card bases.

100_6835

My cards are all basically the same, just different sentiments and accents.

100_6836

I left a couple of them blank so I can use for anything or add a sentiment to them later.

100_6837

I can’t help but think of spring when I look at green and purple.

100_6838

I like that the colors are a but muted and not too dark or bright.

100_6839

I used paper ribbon, ribbon, buttons, flowers, brads and rhinestones as accents.

100_6840

A little bit of scrappers floss in the button.

100_6841

I inked the fabric covered brad with a light sand color because it was originally white and that was just too bright.   I like the toned down tan color.

100_6842

This butterfly was one of the last ones from a set of wedding accents.  They are glittered vellum and adhesive to boot.  They were a wonderful TJ Maxx find.  You never know what you will find at TJ Maxx!

Supplies:

5 Sheets cardstock      ~$.25 each

2 Sheets 12 x 12 scrapbook paper    ~$.50 each

Punch                           craft supply

Misc accents                craft supply

Total cost:  $2.25 plus a few accents* for a set of 8 cards.

* I don’t usually cost out each accent but if I did I’m sure they would average 5-10 cents an item, keeping this card set under $3 without the envelopes.  My envelopes usually cost about 5 cents each.

Hopefully I’ve have some fun craft to show you soon.  I’m on the mend and seem to be getting some creative energy back.  Hopefully I’ll be able to finish a project or two that I have started.

Black, white and pink cards

I don’t really own any pink clothes and wouldn’t describe myself as a ‘pink’ person but there is something about pink on a card.  It just seems right to me.

I mentioned the package of Heidi Swapp papers I got for a steal at Tuesday morning a couple weeks ago.  Here are some of the cards I made with some of the papers in the pack I bought.

100_6731   I sometimes think with the hundreds of stamps I own I really should use them more often on cards but with all the great papers a lot of the time only a few accents and a single stamped sentiment is all that is needed.

I love this FBI stamp but rarely have used it.  I think it makes a great sentiment for a birthday or thinking of you card. 100_6768

Black, white and red cards

I saw a great card with a black and white pattern to it and immediatly wanted to copy the card.  I remembered the black and white paper pack I got at Tuesday Morning last weekend and started making cards.

100_6753

Most of the cards are the same design, black boarder punched paper on the top, ribbon and a flower accent but I did mix it up a bit on a few of them.

100_6747

The original design I saw had the flower accent on the bow but I didn’t like that look with the size of the flowers I had and it had a small white, ribbon shaped cardstock on the bottom with a sentiment on it.

100_6748

I most of the cards blank thinking I can add the sentiments later.

100_6749

I think these would be great anniversary or birthday cards.

100_6750

Maybe even a shower or wedding card if the colors for the wedding were red and black.

100_6751

I am shipping some cards out today and I think I’ll include a few of these.

100_6752

I hope they find a good home.

100_6746

100_6754

It is hard to tell in these pictures but these last two cards are made with red glittered paper.

100_6755

It is a little brighter red than the other cardstock I used and I thought the red rhinestone accents were perfect on these.

100_6756

I’m glad to have some classic looking cards that will be great for any occasion in my ever growing stash of cards.  If you like these or any of the other cards I’ve show be sure to check out my Etsy store as I have some card groupings listed to try to tame my stash.

Vintage car and masculine cards

I’ve had a few of these stamps for years but rarely use them.  Until recently that is.  I was asked if I had masculine birthday cards.  I really didn’t have any but I knew I could make some and the first stamps I thought of was the vintage car stamps.

These first cards I pretty much copied a card design I made at a recent stamp camp.

100_6740

These would be perfect cards for a man, especially one interested in vintage cars.

100_6741

I love the screw brad that I used on this one.

100_6736

I think this was my favorite of the three cars.  I knew the larger car needed a larger embellishment and I thought the mini metal tag was perfect.  I think it might have over powered the smaller car image.

100_6738

I was pleasantly surprised that I could made a masculine colored card with some Heidi Swapp papers.  I know when I think of Heidi Swapp I think of pink.  I probably would not have picked out these papers but now I’m glad that they came in a miscellaneous paper pack of Heidi Swapp papers from Tuesday morning.

Hopefully I’ll find some more card ideas and will end up with a nice stock of masculine cards.

It’s a jungle in here….

In my card making craze I made a few jungle themed cards with some papers from DCWV Animal Crackers stack.  I love their stacks, especially the ones with glitter.  The papers are usually very thick and contain lots of coordinated prints.

100_6737I had a frog die cut that went perfect with these papers.

100_6727

You can’t tell from the pictures but everything but the words are covered with glitter.100_6728

The papers are so detailed and colorful that often I cut them up and use them as my card, no other items necessary.

100_6729

I love the monkeys.

100_6730

I added some chipboard letters, wouldn’t this be a perfect card for a friend?

100_6721

I added a couple small tree limbs and the word adorable.

I still have lots of the Animal Cracker papers left so you might be seeing more cards made with it soon.

I’m dreaming of Paris

I’ve been on a card making kick lately so I thought I would share a few of my latest cards that remind me of Paris.

100_6722

Doesn’t this little bistro set scream Paris to you?

100_6724

I liked playing with and doing a couple different things with the lace that I used.

100_6725

This one reminded me of a summer day which I needed as the grass is all covered up again with snow!  Where’s spring?

100_6726

I have a smaller Eiffel Tower stamp but I love the detail of this larger one.

The black paper I bought at Tuesday Morning.  Do you know that they usually have paper crafting supplies?   Sometimes you can get packages of 25 sheets of 12 x 12 papers for $1.99.  OK, so I don’t need 25 of the same paper but sometimes I can’t resist.

Would you believe that one of my sisters gave up these stamps without ever using them?

Thanks Amy, well I’m thinking they came from Amy.

You see on my crafting weekend I found these stamps in a ‘prize’ or what we lovingly call our ‘crap/supply’ boxes that really make us ponder ‘what was I thinking’ buying or keeping these supplies.  This however was a charming find that I quickly snagged when it came my way.  I will say some of the other stamps aren’t as lovely but you gotta take the good with the bad.  These are the good.
