Chalkboard globe

For a long time I’ve been wanting to decorate with globes.

I’ve seen some awesome ideas.

This chalkboard globe.

These globes.  Sorry I don’t know where I got this picture.  If you know please let me know so I can give the creator proper credit.

I did find a globe not too long ago, remember I showed my owl trio on it.

I wasn’t sure if I should paint it white or with a chalkboard finish so I left it alone.  But last week I found another globe and knew I finally had to paint one of them.

I decided on the chalkboard.

I used black primer on the whole globe and stand and then two coats of chalkboard paint on the globe and hammered aluminum on the stand.

It is not easy to season the globe.  I used almost a whole piece of chalk and it kept breaking into smaller pieces.

Then I took a slightly damp cloth to wipe a bit more of the chalk off.

Now it is all ready to write on if I only could decide what to write…

I used some metallic rub-on on the little plastic doohicky (I’m sure there is a technical name for it.) on top of the globe.  It is plastic and had a light green color to it.  I like it so much better painted with the metallic rub-on.

Maybe I’ll figure out something clever to write on my new globe.

Until then I’ll probably list it in my Etsy store but I won’t mind displaying it until it sells.

I do have another globe that I can paint up and make a second chalkboard globe.

Until then it will stay blank and may help me with my geography.
